Most mountains have been climbed, almost every inch of the world has been explored and mapped, and what's left isn't much of a mystery thanks to satellite photos. There are only two real unexplored areas now- space, and underground !
Underground, no one knows what exists beyond present explorations, around the next corner... the only way to find out is to go there...where else can you tread truly new ground without leaving the planet ?
BPC members are at the forefront of cave exploration both at home and abroad. Exploration continues apace on many fronts, both above and below water.

The BPC has a dedicated team of diggers- the 'Born Again Losers Limestone Society' (B.A.L.L.S.) who are active most weekends, and often midweek (many of it's members being retired !) digging out what they hope will be a new cave entrance. Again, no one knows if a dig will 'go', until it does !
Recent finds in the Dales include  Henslers Pot, Corky's Pot and Pay Sank. Hundreds of man-hours (and woman-hours) have gone into the exploration of these sites.
BALLS leader, Dave 'Swampy' Haigh can be spotted most weekends trying to con encourage people to go digging. He's the one in the pub with the 'Int digging brilliant ?' T shirt !

photo by Gavin Newman The other facet of BPC exploration is undertaken by the Club cave divers. Over the years the BPC have pushed many local sumps- Scoff and Biffo connected much of the Chapel-le-Dale system, Scoff, Ian Lloyd and Dave Ryall have pushed GG's (and Yorkshire's) deepest point (Deep Well) and Mill Hill Sump (GG), surely one of the Dales' few remaining virgin sumps was dived by Dave Ryall to an airspace chamber at 70m from base.
